Tutored Life Drawing Sessions
A TUTORED COURSE OVER SIX WEEKS: Wednesday mornings 10 – 12 pm
The dates are:
SEPTEMBER: 9th 16th 23rd 30th
OCTOBER: 7th 14th
Tutor - Julia Entwistle
*No prior experience is required – just a willingness to embrace your artistic spirit!
Learn to draw the human figure from scratch, or build on skills you already have.
This six-week tutored course runs every Wednesday morning at BL6 Studios in Horwich, guided throughout by Julia Entwistle.
No previous experience is needed. Each session builds naturally on the last, taking you from the basics of proportion and measurement right through to tone, blending, and mixed media work. By the end of the six weeks you’ll have a genuine foundation in life drawing and a set of finished pieces to show for it.
All materials are provided – cartridge paper, pencils, charcoal, and pastels – and the studio is fully equipped with easels and drawing boards. You’re welcome to bring your own materials if you prefer.
There’s a tea and coffee break midway through each session, which tends to turn into a good chat about everyone’s progress.
The course costs £130 for all six sessions.
What you’ll cover each week
Week 1 — Measuring & Proportions We start by learning how to measure the body accurately, building the habit of getting proportions right before anything else.
Week 2 — Head, Face & Features How to approach the head and face — shaping features and understanding how they sit in relation to each other.
Week 3 — Putting It Together Combining the measurement and shaping skills from weeks one and two, with facial features included.
Week 4 — Tone & Blending Working with pencils, charcoal, and pastels to introduce tonal depth and blending techniques.
Week 5 — Mixed Media & Techniques Exploring different drawing approaches using a range of materials — newspaper, brown paper, mixed media — to loosen things up and try something new.
Week 6 — Bringing It All Together A final session drawing on everything covered, including paint materials, to produce more complete finished work.
The week-by-week plan may flex slightly depending on how the group is progressing – Julia will adapt sessions to get the best out of everyone.
